Technical Learning Options for York Employees

The Centre for Staff Development & Technical Learning offers three main options for York employees wishing to improve their technical skills:

  • Instructor-Led Courses: we regularly offer classroom-based courses for Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint as well as Lotus Notes and other specialized topics. For more information, including course descriptions, dates, times and registration procedures, please visit the York Employee Learning Calendar (YELC).
  • Self-Study Course Materials & Exercise Files: Visit our YULink page and scroll to the bottom to find a collection of downloadable learning materials and exercise files that you can work through at your own pace or save as a reference. You'll also find Skills Checklists that you can use to track your progress.
    • The York Libraries have a collection of technical learning books, too! Many of them are available online. Here are the results we get when we search the library for online resources for Microsoft Word 2010.
  • Online Courses: We sponsor access to Lynda.com, an online learning system offering hundreds of video-based courses for computer software and business skills development. To learn more about how our rotating license loan system works, and/or to request access, visit the Online Learning License Request Form.

Of course, there are many, many more learning resources and ways to learn available out there. We've already mentioned some on this blog and will add more over time, so please visit us regularly, or subscribe for updates!
